Gov. Ed Panlilio ready to run for President on 2010.

Have you recently heard the news about Gov. Ed Panlilio having the intentions in vying the seat in Malacañang? Panlilio said that he is open to this idea and said that he has been receiving support from Filipinos inside and outside the country. He also added that he will alot a period of discernment, silence and prayer and if he believes that there is a calling from the people and from God about him running for president, he might consider that as a basis of his decision.

I have a high regard for Gov. Panlilio (or Among Ed as they call him) for being himself when he chose to engage in politics and sacrifice his church vows. I have witnessed his episode from the time he came into politics until now that he's battling to a lot of detractors. Some liked the idea and others reacted violently.

Among Ed marked the political history when he was the first one to reveal an alleged bribe on national media when the Malacañang distributed half a million pesos after a Governors' meeting held in Malacañang.

I am not against the idea of Gov. Ed running for president. This is a neutral opinion on this issue and basically, I just want to know what others think on this concern. Do you think he can make a change if he’ll be president? He may have the courage to fight for the ideology that he believed in and for defending the principles of truth and integrity, but for how long? Some say he is too good to be true. Others say he is hiding behind a mask while others strongly support his ideals.

Coming from my point of view, I agree that anyone has the right to vie for any political title. What matters here is the pure intention of serving the country and uplifting the government’s morale, and not for personal or selfish intent. I hope, whoever sits in the Malacañang after the 2010 elections will be that one person Juan dela Cruz has longed for.

Preparing for a Princess' Debut

Ciara Garcia, a friend, just turned 18 on the 18th of this month and she will be celebrating her debut party on April 3. Few weeks back, she already informed me that I will be a part of her "18 roses". I was kinda surpised and shocked because at my age (22), this will be the first time that I will participate on the 18 roses dance. And just a couple of days ago, I got a text from her that they are already preparing the invitations. So, I am starting to figure out what to wear, the color, the theme and all. She advised me though that I can wear anything formal considering that it would be a glamorous night for her.

Recently while I was in Manila, we passed by Cyber Mall at Eastwood. Apparently, there are many wardrobe shops there and surprisingly cheap! So I took this chance to look for something to wear on the debut. After a few shop hops, we got into Refill. They have a cheap set of formal wardrobe and I found one for only PhP 644 (about US$ 13) that will will perfectly suit the party. And yesterday, while me and Jules were window shopping at SM Pampanga, I found a black pair of pants in Folded and Hung that will beautifully match the long sleeves that I bought in Eastwood. I got the pants for PhP1199 (about US$ 25), not so cheap but the price is worth it.

The party is fast approaching and to tell you, I am so excited to be there. I wanna witness the party of a princess. Luckily, I will be a part of it. The party will probably be held in Mekeni compound in Porac, Pampanga. And you might be wondering, Mekeni is their family business and she is the youngest heiress. It's only then that I got the chance to shop there, though I have been hearing a lot about it from shopaholics when it comes to shopping madness. From Eastwood city, it's only a one jeep ride to take you to Tiendesitas. From everything you wanted, like fashion wear, accessories, antiques, art crafts, locally made products, everything! Even pets, yes, you've read it right! PETS.

According to its website, Tiendesitas is located on a 30,000 sq.m area inside Frontera Verde. I was fascinated by this collection of little stores especially to the antiques and handicrafts section. It showcases and promotes Philippine tourism because of these magnificent works crafted and made by Filipinos. The complex itself is a novel interpretation of the traditional "Bahay Kubo".

As a big fan of arts and great architecture, I was wowed by the place because of its unique and neat concept where the stores have their uniform construction which made the whole shopping center organized and hassle-free. You can also rent for a "Kalesa" ride which will tour you around the place.

During the night, shoppers get to enjoy being serenaded by different bands and singers at the event section which makes shopping more enjoyable.

Eraserheads, The Final Set Concert

We were fortunate enough to be a part of the 100,000 plus people who witnessed the long awaited Eraserheads Reunion Concert, The Final Set Live! held yesterday at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay city, Manila. The crowd was shocking. I never expected that it will hit big time. Right after my work at around 3 in the afternoon, we hurriedly went at the location. We arrived there at around 7pm, just right for the concert because it was scheduled to start by 8pm. Since the tickets were way too costly, and we cannot afford to have the VIP tix, we just positioned ourselves just right in the upper half of the crowd. We got the Silver-A ticket which is around PhP1,300. It's still far from the stage, and in fact you can barely see the stage, good thing big projector screens were everywhere.

Just as expected, the countdown started at exactly 8 that night. It was very unusual and unexpected because the crowd waited for the usual number countdown. But it never happened here because the countdown started at letter 'Z' alphabetically down to the inverted letter 'e', one of the band's trademark. The crowd went crazy during the fireworks display and even more crazy when Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro and Buddy Zabala were hit by the spotlight. To admit, I had goosebumps during their appearance.

Almost everyone were screaming at the top of their lungs when the band started singing 'Magasin'. Followed by another, and another, until everyone was indulged in singing with the band. There were several breaks and mellow songs probably because Ely Buendia was now more concious of his health condition. Most of the time ely was relaxed and sitting. Just to give break to Ely, the members also had their owm vocal performances. It was all fun. They still have the charisma after all these years.

It was a great performance and made me and the others ask for more. Too bad, the concert has to end. all in all, 29 songs were performed including Kaleidoscope World as a tribute to Francis Magalona.

German Photography Exhibit

One of my friends invited me to visit a German Photography exhibit sponsored by The Goethe-Institut, Rogue Magazine and the Yuchengco Museum at RCBC Plaza, Makati city. The exhibit is titled "Zeitgeist Becomes Form: German Fashion Photography 1945-1955". The event showcases the 50-year transition and metamorphosis of German photography coming from their different and most reputable photographers. To give you just an idea, The Goethe-Institut is a German cultural institute and just like the Instituto Cervantes that upholds the Spanish language, it promotes German language and awareness around the world. And we have one here in the Philippines that is located in Makati as well.

The exhibit was held at the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Yuchengco museum. It was magnificently architectured and the arrangement of the set added up to the grandeur of the place. I was fascinated, apart from the pictures, by the different pieces of metal artwork displayed all over the exhibit area. I actually have some pictures below so it won’t be hard to visualize how they look like.

One of the policies of the museum is, strictly no cameras allowed and taking pictures or videos inside the museum is strictly prohibited. BUT hey!, thanks to Ms. Elma Abrina (Museum Programs Officer) for being so nice to us that she gave us the permission to take photos inside the museum, with a little regulation and some conditions, of course.

We spent almost two hours in the museum taking photos and enjoying the beauty of the place. I think we should somehow engage and be open to different countries’ culture and tradition because every nation has something to showcase and in our dynamic world today, we must learn how to adapt to different customs; that’s part of survival nowadays.
